Ciara Ungar’s Work

When I came to New York City, I never felt more at home. Having come from a working class family, I understand the economic and social hardships many face as they try to gain stability and move upward, and it’s something the hard working people of New York City understand and embrace. My friends, family, and neighbors on the West Side of Manhattan have shown me what community and helping one another through hardship truly looks like. The people of New York don’t just speak words, they take action and protect one another.

Today’s political environment may seem impossible to navigate, but the people in this city show me anything is possible and inspire me to pursue my passion in elevating the quality of life for each New Yorker.

I participate in legislation, advocacy, education, and local government initiatives because I believe that government for the people by the people can help us progress and improve the quality of life for all.

I believe it takes partnership and collective action to design creative solutions that solve complex economic and social issues that have compounded over generations of inequities. My goal is to elevate the voices of those who are marginalized, fight for dignity for all, and leverage my seasoned expertise in solution development to bring together public and private sectors to dismantle systemic barriers to social, racial, and economic inequities. Every New Yorker - from those experiencing houselessness to those driving innovation - deserves the resources they need to live a healthy, quality life.
